View Full Version : The Gay Question.

I had a rather heated debate with my daughter about gay marriage. She is currently studying to do Youth Ministry and we often bump heads on many subjects. To me, attending a Gay wedding is out as it is condoning the marriage. She then says, no, not at all. God is not there to be part of the marriage as it clearly states in the Bible, so she would attend, but would not conduct a wedding ceremony for a gay couple and then quoted 1 Corinthian 9:22. To her, we must do all to show God's love and mercy to win their hearts for God. I must say I was stumped for an answer.

That's a tough question and the answer would in all probability be influenced by the age of the person giving the answer. Being prescriptive is not really going to solve the issue. Hiding one's head in the sand would in probably not be correct either. Steering away from the scriptures and trying to make this a religious thing would be my take. Just as a jest, God did not make Adam and Steve, He made Adam and Eve - that already should be an indication. Dolphins and humans, it is said, are the only mammals who have sex for pleasure and not as a mating or reproductive act.

I would think that much of how one view this whole gay thing may be deduced from ones own morals and the values with which you were brought up. Like with many things in life, I personally do not think it is correct and will not condone it. However that does not give me the right or the privilege to lambaste those who either do it or are in favour thereof. I think it is wrong and is clearly against nature, but each person will one day have an opportunity to explain why they did what they did on earth and I just hope the lame arguments presented in favour of this act/lifestyle will then hold up for those who practice such.

Rom 1:20 Want sy onsigbare dinge kan van die skepping van die wêreld af in sy werke verstaan en duidelik gesien word, naamlik sy ewige krag en goddelikheid, sodat hulle geen verontskuldiging het nie;
Amen.
Rom 1:26 Daarom het God hulle oorgegee aan skandelike hartstogte, want hulle vroue het die natuurlike verkeer verander in dié wat teen die natuur is;
Rom 1:29 hulle is vervul met allerhande ongeregtigheid, hoerery, boosheid, hebsug, ondeug; vol nydigheid, moord, twis, bedrog, kwaadaardigheid;
Rom 1:30 nuusdraers, kwaadsprekers, haters van God, geweldenaars, trotsaards, grootpraters, uitvinders van slegte dinge, ongehoorsaam aan die ouers;
Rom 1:31 onverstandig, ontrou, sonder natuurlike liefde, onversoenlik, onbarmhartig,
Rom 1:32 mense wat al ken hulle die verordening van God goed, dat die wat sulke dinge doen, die dood verdien dié dinge nie alleen self doen nie, maar ook hulle goedkeuring skenk aan die wat dit doen.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
Rom 1:19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
Rom 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Rom 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Rom 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,
Rom 1:25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;
Rom 1:27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Rom 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Rom 1:29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
Rom 1:32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Hi there. Just be reminded that Jesus also ate with sinners and mingled with them.
But there is a difference.. Jesus did that to tell them about the gospel, and to save them.
Therefore, if your daughter has got that in mind, it is ok, but just to "kuier" with them and to have a nice time is not ok.
She has to get to it , get to the point and tell them about God's grace through Jesus as soon as possible.

When Barack Obama campaigned for the presidential election in 2008, he promised the American people that he would bring change. Indeed, this country has changed in many ways since Obama took office, and one of the most obvious changes is the favorable opinion now enjoyed by homosexuals in the United States. It is interesting to note that prior to Obama’s election win in 2008, only two states, Massachusetts and Connecticut, had legalized same-sex marriage. (29) As of this writing, same-sex marriage is now legal in 37 states. (30) Oddly enough, Obama actually claimed to oppose same-sex marriage during his first campaign for President of the United States. On April 17th, 2008, during a speech given at Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church, Obama declared the following: “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now for me as a Christian – for me – for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.” (31) Obama would then claim later that he had a change of heart and on May 9th, 2012, he told Robin Roberts of ABC News, “I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” (32) The truth is that Barack Obama never opposed same-sex marriage, and when he said that he did, he was lying through his teeth. This fact is confirmed in a recently released book published by former political strategist David Axelrod who worked for Obama during his campaign. Speaking of Obama, Axelrod wrote in his book, “Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a ‘sacred union.’” (33)

It seems probable that finding a way to normalize the homosexual lifestyle in America was part of the Obamas’ plans all along. At a speech given on January 30th, 2015, First Lady Michelle Obama praised Hollywood for promoting same-sex marriage in movies and television shows. “Every day through the movies and TV shows and ads you all create, you have the power to shape our understanding of the world around us. You challenge our most strongly held beliefs. You influence our opinions on current events. So the fact is, in many ways, you all are in a unique position to help us address some of the most challenging issues that we face as a nation. Just take an issue like gay rights. It wasn’t all that long ago that this was a third-rail kind of issue, not just in politics but in entertainment as well. It was considered sensitive, even controversial. But in the early 90s, that started to change. Tom Hanks won an Oscar for his portrayal of a gay character in ‘Philadelphia.’ ‘The Real World’ included an openly gay cast member. And over the years, there was ‘Ellen’ and ‘Will and Grace,’ ‘Milk’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ And today, ‘The Imitation Game’ is up for Best Picture at the Oscars, and Cam and Mitchell – two of my favorites – are raising their daughter on ‘Modern Family,’ one of the top-rated shows on TV.” (34) Needless to say, Hollywood has played a significant role in the promotion of homosexuality.

Of course, the homosexual lifestyle which has become greatly normalized in our day is completely contrary to the Scriptures we find in God’s Word. However, that does not seem to bother some professing Christians. In a recent television appearance, former megachurch pastor Rob Bell told Oprah Winfrey that he believes we are only “moments away” from seeing homosexuality accepted by the church. “I think culture is already there and the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and co-workers and neighbors and they love each other and just want to go through their life with someone.” (35) Rob Bell’s words call to mind Scriptures we find in II Timothy 4:3-4 which reads, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
