Pffffftttt! http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/Politics/ANC-wants-end-to-negative-reporting-on-police-20150825

Johannesburg - Negative reporting about the police needs to be counteracted, the ANC says indocuments (http://www.anc.org.za/docs/umrabulo/2015/ngc_disc_docsy.pdf) for its national general council.
South Africans still have a "negative perception" about their personal safety, the party says in a document entitled Peace and Stability.
This is particularly so among the elderly, farm residents, women and children, gays, lesbians, transgender, bisexual and intersex people.
"An aggressive media campaign by the security cluster [SAPS in particular] aimed at demonstrating the achievements of the SAPS in the fight against crime may be necessary to counter the negative media reporting."

The ANC says attacks on law enforcement officers appear to be increasing and they need to gain the respect of the country’s citizens.
"This is a phenomenon that would require the attention of the security cluster with a view to ensuring that the law enforcement officers gain the necessary respect from the population of South Africa whilst respectfully providing service to them."
In this year to August 24, 60 police officers had been killed, four of them in the last week of July.
The ANC's national general council, to be held in October, will assess progress made in implementing resolutions taken at its last elective congress, in Mangaung in December 2012.
